Suicide Prevention and Mental Health First Aid Training

Ask-Listen-Refer is an online suicide prevention training program designed to 1) identify people at risk for suicide, 2) recognize the risk factors, protective factors and warning signs, and 3) respond to and get help for people at risk. It is recommended that all community members complete this training annually.

Mental Health First Aid is an eight (8) hour course that teaches adults 18 years and older how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis. Certification lasts for 3 years. Email mhfa@liashapiro.com for more information.

In-person suicide prevention training workshops are available for the campus community to learn signs and symptoms of students in distress, as well as how to properly refer them to campus resources and CAPS services. Contact Dr. Jude Uy uyj@liashapiro.com for more information and to schedule a workshop.
